Applications are open for round one of the Transit Expansion Construction Mitigation Grant Program.
The Transit Expansion Construction Mitigation Grant Program provides funding to Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) and business associations for community-driven initiatives that mitigate the impacts of construction on local businesses.
Objectives
- The program provides funding to local business communities significantly impacted by transit expansion projects, assisting BIAs and other organizations in their efforts to implement effective, innovative and creative solutions to local business challenges posed by sustained major construction. The program goals are to:
- Support local businesses impacted by major construction works,
- Encourage the development and testing of innovative and effective construction mitigation strategies and expand their use across the City of Toronto, and
- Pilot and showcase innovative, scalable construction mitigation solutions to challenges faced by BIAs and local business communities.
Funding Information
- The program offers grants of $10,000, $25,000 and $50,000 for projects that meet eligibility requirements.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible Organizations
- Toronto BIAs and not-for-profit organizations with strong local business involvement are eligible for funding.
- The program does not provide funding to individual businesses or for-profit entities.
- Eligible Communities
- Funding is available in relation to major transit infrastructure projects of multi-year scope that are likely to have a disruptive impact on businesses. Communities impacted by major transit construction projects are eligible for grant funding prior to, during and after construction has been completed.
- Eligible Construction Mitigation Initiatives
- BIAs and not-for-profit organizations are eligible for grants of up to $50,000 for a range of initiatives, such as:
- business engagement,
- area marketing and branding,
- creative event activations,
- research and needs assessment, and
- beautification.
