The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is pleased to announce the applications for Artistic Creation Grants to support innovative artistic creation projects in the areas of Performing Arts – Dance (choreography) and Theater (theatre and opera staging) –, Visual Arts (drawing, sculpture, photography, video) performance, and Cinema painting (direction).
Grants will be awarded to:
- Artistic creation projects in the fields of the Performing Arts – Dance (choreography) and Theatre (theatre and opera staging) –, Visual Arts (drawing, sculpture, photography, performance, painting, and video) and Cinema (directing);
- Artistic creation projects in the abovementioned fields that will be carried out during a national or international artist residency;
- Curatorial projects in the Visual Arts.
- Projects must be launched and carried out between 1 July 2023 and 30 November 2025 and must include a public presentation, which may be complemented by activities disseminated through digital media.
Funding Information
- The value of the support varies, with the minimum contribution of the amount to be granted being 80% of the amount requested for the project and corresponds to expenses considered eligible, never exceeding the total value of 15,000 euros for each support.
Eligibility Criteria
- Portuguese artists;
- Foreign artists permanently residing in Portugal and with a demonstrated history of activity in the national art scene;
- Private Portuguese non-profit art institutions.
Exclusion
- The following will be excluded from the contest:
- Performing Arts and Film projects resulting from commissions from Portuguese institutions with the aim of integrating the respective programs;
- Visual Arts projects whose first presentation takes place in commercial galleries;
- Projects of an academic or school nature;
- Projects exclusively in the fields of Architecture and Design;
- Applications from entities that are in a situation of unjustified non-compliance with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, namely with regard to the presentation of reports on material and/or financial execution, or refund of balances, or that already benefit simultaneously from other support granted by the Foundation.
- The following expenses will be excluded:
- Expenses with retroactive effect;
- Budget items that are already covered by contributions from other(s) funding entity(ies);
- Fixed costs and current expenses of the regular activity of artistic production institutions or their support, such as consumption of water, electricity, internet, etc.;
- Expenses with rental of presentation spaces.
