The United States Agency for International Development’s is inviting applicants for its H2O Yemen Program that will address the underlying issues of limited access to safe water and sanitation. USAID funding through this APS will complement ongoing USAID/OFDA humanitarian programming that focuses on addressing emergency water, sanitation, and hygiene priorities.
Yemen’s water situation has long been the Middle East’s worst and the current conflict is preventing the country from confronting this devastating threat to Yemen’s longer-term economic and social stability. In less than a decade Sana’a, may become the world’s first capital to run out of water.
Activities
- Improve access to safe water and sanitation services in urban and rural areas through development of small to medium scale water systems and/or rehabilitation of existing community level water supplies and piped water networks.
- Provide community level water desalination/purification units and/or community and household rainwater-harvesting systems in rural areas for domestic use.
- Assist local authorities and service providers (including private sector) to strengthen solid and liquid waste disposal management systems.
- Support national and local water service providers, authorities, and community water committees, including organizational, operational, staff salaries, maintenance, and anti-corruption assistance.
- Conduct water resources analysis and monitoring.
- Support behavior change interventions to reduce WASH related diseases.
- Promote water reuse efforts and introduce water saving technologies to promote alternative irrigation methods in the agriculture sector.

Eligibility Criteria
- USAID welcomes applications from many types of organizations including U.S. and non-U.S. Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), faith-based organizations, international organizations, foundations, colleges and universities, civic groups, regional organizations, etc.
- All applicants must be legally recognized organizational entities under applicable law.
- An individual cannot apply as an applicant.
- All applicants must be physically present in Yemen or have current active projects in Yemen.
