Applicants are invited to submit proposals for the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section Grants Program. The program awards grants principally to Haiti-based non-profit and non-governmental organizations and independent media for projects that support democracy and governance, public health, and economic development in the Republic of Haiti.
Proposals that support academic mobility between two countries; strengthen civil society; the empowerment of youth in realizing their potential through education, innovation and entrepreneurship; the democratic ideals of freedom of expression and of the press; teaching of the English language; empowerment and security of women and girls; and strengthening cultural ties between the U.S. and Haiti.
All programs must include an American cultural element, or connection with American expert/s, organization/s, or institution/s in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of U.S. policy and perspectives.
Program Priority Areas
- Promoting political awareness and participation among the public and/or among youth
- Promoting civic education and youth participation in civics, democratic processes, volunteerism, and community service
- Combatting corruption
- Promoting rule of law / effective administration in justice
- Fostering: press freedom, independent media, professionalism in the media
- Empowerment of women and youth
- Promoting entrepreneurship and business development
- Human rights
- Telling America’s story in Haiti
- Celebrating the Haitian and American cross cultural encounter in the arts
Funding Information
- The maximum Public Affairs Section Grant will be $24,500.
- Grant periods can be for up to one year. (e.g. September 1, 2017-August 15, 2018)
Evaluation Criteria
The Public Affairs Section Grants Committee will evaluate proposals according to the following criteria:
- Relevance of topic
- Clarity in goals, activities, and target group
- Sensible budgeting
- Longer-term sustainability, where applicable
- The ability of the applying organization to successfully carry out the project aims.
- Inclusion of U.S. content in the program. How does the organization plan to share information about American history, culture, and/or values through this program?
