The Japan Foundation is seeking applications for its “Grant Program for Intellectual Exchange by Youth and Community Leaders” to support international dialogue initiatives by local community groups and/or youth groups in Japan that lead to the development of next generation human resources for international intellectual exchange.
Grant Coverage
Part of the travel costs (international air or ship fares, local transportation expenses, daily allowances and accommodation fees).
Eligibility Criteria
Non-profit organizations in Japan.
Eligible Area
Worldwide excluding the 10 ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam), and Taiwan
Eligible Projects
International dialogues such as international conferences, seminars and workshops initiated by local groups and/or youth groups. Principal participants in the dialogues are either invited from overseas or sent from Japan to other countries.
Selection Policy
- Higher priority will be given to projects that meet the following criteria:
- Projects that are actively organized by the local community, or contribute to the local community by disseminating information about the area and revitalizing it.
- Projects in which the youths themselves are major participants and take initiative in the planning and implementation.
- Projects that encourage proactive participation of overseas counterparts.
- Projects from which sustainable relationships among participants are likely to emerge.
- Lower priority will be given to the following projects:
- Projects that request the Japan Foundation to cover the full amount of all expenses.
- Projects based on existing partnerships, such as agreements between universities and sister institution relationships.
- Projects that are organized primarily as study tours or training tours.
