Deadline: 1 June 2018
The Dice Fund is seeking applications for its Scoping and Business Development Grant that will enable UK intermediaries and social/creative enterprises to collaborate in delivering interventions with like-minded organisations in the five partner countries.
The programme is managed by the British Council’s new Arts and Society Unit, which brings together dynamic teams delivering some of the British Council’s most pioneering work to address major global challenges. DICE is a multi-year programme designed to nurture, stimulate and strengthen the social and creative enterprise ecosystem in five emerging economies (Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan and South Africa) and the UK.

Eligibility Criteria
British Council expects that applicant organisations will be starting from one of two positions:
- New Development:
- These UK social/creative enterprises or intermediaries do not yet have established partnerships in the identified target countries. The Scoping and Business Development Grant will provide selected applicants with the opportunity to begin to develop partnerships in one of these five nations (Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan or South Africa). The grant can be applied to support project development and travel to the partner country and can be used to cover staff activities and/or direct travel costs.Applicants are expected to provide a set of proposed activities, meetings and/or site visits in their identified partner country.
- There will be two country visits arranged in each partner country and these will include a scheduled programme organised by the local British Council team. Successful applicants should also expect to organise some of their own meetings and should have potential partners identified. The first country visit is due to take place from July – September 2018, and the second October – December 2018, with exact dates to be confirmed by May 2018.
- Established Development: These UK social/creative enterprises or intermediaries have an established partnership with organisations in the target country. The Scoping and Business Development grant could be applied to the development of new projects that demonstrate an innovative approach in the UK or overseas. UK applicants with the following characteristics will be prioritised in the decision-process:
- those with a demonstrated track record and commitment to working at the intersection of creative and social enterprise to achieve positive change
- those that are led by, work with or serve women, people with disabilities and other identified marginalised groups. Proposals from UK organisations that do not currently focus their work at the intersection of social and creative enterprise will still be considered in order to ensure they have a mixed portfolio of participants. The applicant could expand their remit in any number of ways, including, for example:
- a social enterprise/intermediary aiming to explore how to integrate creative/artistic practice or processes at the core of its business or that of its beneficiaries (on the basis of emerging evidence suggesting that creativity and the creative process is integral to the approaches taken by many social entrepreneurs to identify solutions)
- a creative enterprise/intermediary aiming to develop and deliver programmes that have a clear social benefit (e.g. emerging evidence suggests an important role for creative entrepreneurship in unlocking the hidden wealth of social innovation and talent that exists within communities in many parts of the world)
- a social/creative enterprise/intermediary that aims to recruit women, people with disabilities and other identified marginalized groups in to senior positions
- a social/creative enterprise/intermediary that aims to diversify its target markets to serve women, people with disabilities, un and underemployed youth and other identified marginalized groups
- a for-profit organisation with an existing charitable arm, demonstrating positive social impact.
