Applications are open for Algeria Youth Leadership Program (AYLP) which is a four-week U.S.-based exchange program for high school students focused on civic education, youth leadership development, respect for diversity, and community engagement.
This Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is administered by the Northern Nevada International Center.
Participants will engage in a variety of activities, such as workshops on leadership and service, community site visits related to the program themes, interactive training and discussion groups, small group work, presentations, local cultural activities, and homestays with American families, among other activities.
Students participate in workshops, community service, team-building exercises, and meetings with community leaders. Students also have the opportunity to stay with American families. After the program, students apply their new skills and knowledge to implement service projects in their communities. Program activity sites include Washington, D.C. and Reno, Nevada.
Benefits
The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, in conjunction with its private partners, will pay for ground transportation to and from Algiers, international transportation to and from the United States, orientations and workshops, program fees and administration, site visits and seminars, lodging and most meals, some cultural activities, educational materials, and accident and sickness insurance coverage. Participants will stay with volunteer host families.

- U.S. program dates: June 17-July 11, 2019 in Reno, NV and Washington, D.C.
- Program Orientation for Algerian participants: June 14-16, 2019 in Algiers
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants are:
- Algerian Youth (age15-17 on June 14, 2019)
- American Youth (age15-17 on June 14, 2019)
- Algerian Adults who have extensive experience working with youth
