U.S. Mission to Nicaragua is currently inviting applicants from eligible organizations for its Public Affairs Section (PAS) Small Grants Program to support innovative projects focused on empowering Nicaraguans through educational and entrepreneurial opportunities.
A grant is an agreement in which the U.S. Federal Government provides funding or property to support a public purpose. The U.S. Government is not the recipient of the goods or services and does not play a substantial role.

- Award Ceiling: $100,000
- Award Floor: $5,000
Eligible Projects
The Public Affairs Section (PAS) is most interested in projects that promote U.S.-Nicaragua relations through proposals that will:
- Strengthen democratic institutions, support good governance, advance human rights, and advance press freedom.
- Promote women’s empowerment and/or prevent gender based violence.
- Improve instruction and academic achievement in English language proficiency and/or science, technology, environment, architecture/art, and math (STEAM).
- Strengthen entrepreneurship and economic development and expand access among minority communities, women, and disadvantaged communities.
- Create a greater understanding of U.S policy, best practices, and culture
- Engage alumni of U.S. sponsored exchange programs.
All projects should target youth, ages 15-35, and contain an element of direct interaction between Americans and Nicaraguans.
Eligibility Criteria
- US and Nicaraguan individuals and non-profit and non-governmental organizations with legal status. All awards are subject to funds availability. Recipient cost-share is encouraged, but is not required.
- Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education

Evaluation Criteria
- The PAS Small Grants Program will evaluate and score proposals according to the following criteria:
- Quality of the program.
- Ability to achieve program objectives.
- Project evaluation.
- Budget and narrative justification.
- All awards are subject to funds availability. Recipient cost-share is encourage, but is not required.
