The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has developed a project entitled “Insertion and support for entrepreneurship of young rural people”, targeting young rural men and women in the communes of Ferrier and St Raphael, located in the NordNord departments in East and North of Haiti.
This project aims to support their professional integration and improve their training to meet local needs while encouraging economic initiatives.
As part of the first component of the project, it is planned to support local investment to promote job-creating economic growth. This support will consist of providing financial support for the income-generating activities of local organizations, particularly grassroots community organizations. This initiative aims to provide a sustainable source of income and alleviate the economic difficulties faced by rural women, thereby contributing to their empowerment and well-being.
Goals
- The overall objective here is to strengthen the technical capacities of organizations in carrying out their income-generating activities so that they contribute sustainably to the development and wellbeing of communities.
- Specifically, this call seeks to select already existing projects from grassroots women’s community organizations that have already demonstrated a strong impact in the life of the communities where they are established and that are linked to one priority sectors of the project.
Priority Sectors
- Without being exhaustive, the following list lists some themes that will be prioritized within the framework of this support:
- Production (agriculture, fish farming, etc.);
- Transformation; vs. Beekeeping
- Waste transformation;
- Livestock breeding and fishing;
- The wrapping or packaging;
- Any other sector deemed relevant.
Eligibility Criteria
- The eligibility criteria are defined as follows:
- Be an association organization of women with a legal existence or with of an act justifying its existence;
- The organization must carry out an income-generating activity beneficial to the community or have members with income-generating activities serving the community;
- Be an organization physically established on Haitian territory, specifically in the above-mentioned communes (provide a location plan and related documents);
- Must not be the beneficiary of support from UNDP or during the last 6 month.
Criteria
- This call is aimed at community-based organizations, established in the project implementation area (Ferrier and St Raphael);
- Priority will be given to organizations that play an important role in economic empowerment of women;
- The bidding organization must not be the beneficiary of support from the UNDP in order to avoid duplication (support in progress or during the last 6 months);
- The submitted budget must not exceed 1 million HTG. It is desirable that there be a counterpart to the financing of the project which can be in kind or financial;
- Express clearly and precisely how the projects contribute or will contribute to improving the living conditions of the population of the municipality;
- The completion of the main project activities will extend over 6 months and should not go beyond November 30, 2024;
- The fund management procedure will be that of the United Nations and disbursements by deliverables will be made by UNDP according to the indicated timetable;
- Before any transfer of funds, the selected organizations must first sign a protocol with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in order to formalize the agreement;
- Eligible expenses are mainly related to purchases of products or materials (land purchases are not part of eligible expenses) necessary for the expansion of the activity.
