The Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) is inviting applications for the Caribbean Mapping Community Micro-Grant program to support the growth of open mapping communities in the Caribbean by providing resources, funding, and mentorship to strengthen their community impact.
The HOT Caribbean Mapping Community Micro-Grant program is formulated on the belief that strong open-mapping communities emerge from well-supported groups of dedicated individuals. The aim of the program is to provide the resources needed to establish a nurturing environment for the growth and development of open mapping groups in the Caribbean region. Participants are empowered through funding and mentorship to strengthen the open mapping group’s impact on their communities. Successful applicants can access microgrants for organisation-strengthening activities and events.
What Can Selected Grantees Under this Program Expect?
- HOT will provide:
- Technical training on data collection, analysis and user-centered tool/product development, depending on needs, to the implementation partner;
- Capacity building training on project management, leadership and sustainability, depending on needs;
- Where possible, HOT will share initial assessment findings with the project team(s) as a resource on available data and potential counterparts;
- Templates for the required reports
- Grant not exceeding $2000 USD to selected applicants.
Eligibility Criteria
- The following criteria must be met for the application to be assessed for the Caribbean Mapping Community Micro-Grant Program. Please ensure that you meet the criteria listed below before completing the application for to be considered:
- Open mapping-focused organizations, groups, communities (and individuals) that are based and operate in the Caribbean region.
- Organisations focused on community-building, humanitarian efforts and social good which incorporate the use of OSM in their work.
- Organizations, groups, communities do not need to be legally registered; however, they will either need a legally registered organization to receive funds on their behalf, or nominate an individual to receive funds on behalf of their organization or group.
- Applicants do not need to be currently affiliated with HOT, but projects must contribute broadly to HOT’s commitment of humanitarian action and community development through mapping.
Ineligible
- HOT staff members, voting members and board members are not eligible.
- Preference is given to applicants who apply as a community, rather than applying as an individual.
- Multiple applications by the same individual or community
