The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is accepting proposals for Awareness-raising and Civic Education Program to strengthen women’s electoral participation.
Objectives
- To empower women as candidates and voters by informing them before the 2024 communal and municipal elections.
- Specific objectives:
- Increase the rate of women’s participation in the electoral process through awareness-raising activities such as workshops, discussion forums, debates, to create an environment conducive to their engagement in the electoral process.
- Raise awareness and inform women voters about their civil and political rights and the electoral process to strengthen their involvement and commitment in the upcoming municipal and communal elections.
- Train local women leaders so that they can in turn promote civic and electoral education in their communities and encourage the participation of other women.
- Coordinate with the CENI by integrating a gender-sensitive approach, in order to guarantee inclusive and equitable electoral education in the intervention areas.

- The maximum amount awarded is $10,000.
Geographic Focus
- Activities should focus mainly in the following regions: Analamanga, Menabe, Ihorombe, Vakinankaratra, Diana, Sava, Boeny, Atsimo-Andrefana and Haute Matsiatra, CSOs working/operating in the intervention area will have an additional advantage in the selection.
Target groups or beneficiaries
- The program is aimed at women, whether organized or not. The proposal must include a realistic number of people to be reached, with a description of the expected impact and indicators.
Expected Results
- Increased participation of women in elections: Workshops, forums and debates will enable women to increase their participation as voters and candidates in the targeted areas (Analamanga, Menabe, Ihorombe, Vakinankaratra, Diana, Sava, Boeny, Atsimo-Andrefana and Haute Matsiatra).
- Strengthening understanding of civil rights: Information campaigns will improve women’s knowledge of their civil rights and the electoral process, thereby stimulating their engagement.
- Training of women leaders: Local women leaders will be trained to encourage civic education and political participation in their communities.
- Inclusive electoral education: In collaboration with the CENI, a gender-sensitive approach will ensure equitable access to electoral education for women in the intervention regions.
Eligibility Criteria
- The call for proposals is open to all Malagasy civil society organizations registered in accordance with current legislation and engaged in the following areas:
- Elections
- Civic and electoral education
- Human rights, including women’s rights
- Local governance
- Gender equality
- Women’s civic participation
- Selected proposals should include elements of innovation and new methods to engage women and promote civil rights, democratic values and impact, with a focus on the culture of peace
