The Thornog Community Benefit Fund has been created by Energia Renewables in collaboration with local groups to provide meaningful social and economic benefits alongside the environmental advantages of the Thornog Wind Farm.
The fund’s focus areas include energy efficiency and sustainability, social, cultural or sporting benefit for the local community, educational issues with a sustainability angle, and environmental benefit or economic benefit.
This local community fund supports projects that are planned and run for the benefit of residents within a 10-mile radius of the wind farm, with 70% of the funds allocated to groups within six miles. Micro grants of up to £3,000 are available to support small-scale initiatives. Eligible applicants include constituted voluntary organisations, community groups, and local youth groups based within the designated area.
Energia Renewables aims to ensure that the wind farm contributes positively to the surrounding areas by supporting projects that promote sustainable practices, community engagement, education, and local economic development. The fund encourages efforts that align with these themes to strengthen the community and its environment.
The Community Foundation will not provide funding to organisations or activities that promote causes contrary to its purposes, including those linked to armaments, alcohol, human rights abuses, tobacco, or pornography. The fund prioritizes projects that create lasting, positive impact without conflicting with these core values.
