Deadline: Ongoing
The Open Society Foundations is seeking applications for its program entitled “Supporting Universities Providing Higher Education to Refugees”. The program seeks to learn about efforts aimed at increasing access to higher education for Syrian refugees.
The demand for university education has come from the students themselves, who insist upon something more than the unaccredited vocational education and skills training that is typically offered in camps and urban refugee centres.
Objectives
- Institutions seeking to extend access to refugees by means other than individual scholarships for existing programs
- Organizations supporting refugee academics to continue their teaching and research
- Academic programs designed to address the issues of relief, reconstruction, and recovery
- Blended or online education programs specifically aimed at refugee populations
Eligibility Criteria
- There is no list of eligible countries.
- However, the project must focus on higher education for Syrian refugees, although refugees from out countries and host country nationals may also be included in the target population.
Ineligibility Criteria
- The Higher Education Support Program does not provide individual scholarships or fellowships to refugees.
- Nor do fund programs which exclusively provide individual scholarships or fellowships.
