Deadline: 25 October 2016
The Nominet Trust is currently inviting entrepreneurial organisations for its Social Tech Seed grant-funding programme, offering early-stage investment to develop innovative projects harnessing the power of the internet and digital technologies to deliver significant social change.
The programme supports projects tackling pressing social challenges such as the environment and sustainability, education, employment and healthcare. Social Tech Seed will provide funding and support to help you demonstrate the social, user and financial value of your existing digital prototype.
Social Tech Seed provides funding and support that enables entrepreneurial organisations with a basic, but functional, digital prototype to develop it into a more robust product or service and demonstrate its value to intended users and other stakeholders.
Grants Available
Successful applicants may expect to receive:
- Grant funding, typically between £15,000 and £50,000 for a project of 9-12 months’ duration
- A support package including mentoring, marketing & comms advice and networking opportunities
- Access to a discretionary fund of up to £5,000 should you need access to specific expertise to support your early-stage development
Eligibility Criteria
- The majority of ventures invested in are UK-based. However, overseas applications will be considered if they align with the programmes of investment and can clearly demonstrate how they will address social challenges faced in the UK.
- Applications from entrepreneurs, teams, start-ups or organisations who want to apply their talent and technology to address UK social issues are considered.
- An individual can apply for funding – but, if successful, he/she will be required to form a registered legal entity before receiving their first payment.
- The Trust provides grants to organisations explicitly for public benefit and the creation of social value. As part of the grant application process, one should be able to satisfy the Trust of how their organisation and project demonstrate their social purpose and the delivery of social value on an on-going basis.
- There are certain types of projects, or project budgetary items, that we do not support, such as:
- hardware or software procurement projects; for example, a project to equip a school with PCs, buy software licenses, or install wi-fi for a community
- website improvements where no new functional or service delivery innovations are created
- website development unless the project and organisation delivers against our current investment programme and meets the funding criteria
- core organisational running costs per se
