The European Journalism Centre (EJC) is seeking applicants for its Global Health Journalism Grant Programme for Germany entitled “Innovation in Development Reporting”. The project rewards quality journalism and advances a new and distinctive agenda for development coverage through the award of funding to state-of-the-art reporting projects of great impact and high visibility.
Each fellow will create and publish a series of items that shed light on health-related issues of developing countries, while putting health into the broader context of development cooperation, political stability, migration, and international relations.
The European Journalism Centre (EJC) is a non-profit international foundation with the remit to improve, strengthen, and underpin journalism and the news media. This mission has two main aspects:
- Safeguarding , enhancing, and future-proofing quality journalism in Europe
- Supporting initiatives towards press freedom in emerging and developing countries
Grant Information
- EJC will award 16 stipends to freelance journalists over the coming 18 months, each worth €10,000
- Stipends will cover fees and expenses for journalistic work as a lump sum. In addition, there is a limited budget available for extra costs, such as long-distance travel and possible technical expenses for crews, equipment, data acquisition and analysis, visualisation, translations, etc.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications are open to freelance journalists who have experience working with the topics related to health, science, development cooperation and for a relevant German media organization or for an organization with a visible distribution range in Germany.
- There are no citizenship or nationality requirements.
