The U.S. Embassy is seeking applications for its 2017 Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) Large Grants Program.
AFCP-supported projects include the restoration of ancient and historic buildings, assessment and conservation of rare manuscripts and museum collections, preservation and protection of important archaeological sites, and the documentation of vanishing traditional craft techniques and indigenous languages.
The Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation was created in 2001 to support the preservation of cultural heritage and demonstrate U.S. respect for other cultures, their history, and rich traditions. Cultural heritage endures as a reminder of the contributions and historical experiences of all humanity.

Requirements
- Application process: The application process for the AFCP Large Grants Program takes place in two rounds: Project Abstract (Round 1) and Full Proposal (Round 2).
- Project purpose: Briefly explain the project objectives and desired results;
- Project activities description: Explain how the applicant intends to achieve the project objectives and results; present proposed tasks in a logical order; and describe how those tasks directly contribute towards achieving the project objectives and results;
- Project timeframe or schedule: Identify the major project phases and milestones, with performance target dates for achieving them;
- Statement of importance: Highlight the historic, architectural, artistic, or cultural (non-religious) values of the cultural site, object, collection, or form of traditional expression;
- Statement of urgency: Indicate the severity of the situation and explained why this project must be undertaken now;
- Detailed project budget: Demarcate in one-year budget periods (2017, 2018, etc.); list all costs in cost categories (Personnel, Travel [including Per Diem], Equipment, Supplies, Contractual, Other Direct Costs); indicate funds from other sources; and give a justification for any anticipated international travel costs;
- Applicant information: Include resumes or CVs of the proposed project director and key project participants; demonstrate that the applying entity (Ministry of Culture, NGO, etc.) has the requisite experience and the capacity to manage projects designed to preserve cultural heritage;
- Proof of official permission: Demonstrating that the grantee has permission, endorsement and support from the appropriate national authorities to undertake the project;
- Attachments: Include at least five high quality digital images (JPEGs) or audiovisual files that convey the current nature and condition of the site, object, or form of expression and, in the case of a site or object, show the urgency or need for the proposed project (collapsing wall, water damage, worn fabric, broken handle, etc).
