The Peabody is offering Making Space for Nature Community Fund for individuals, community groups, charities and schools to transform Thamesmead’s green spaces and help local people engage with nature.
The Making Space for Nature Community Fund is for anyone who wants to help celebrate, enhance, activate, and animate these unique spaces. They are looking for people who have a creative and community focused idea to make Thamesmead even greener, and/or give Thamesmead residents the chance to experience and learn more about their local environment.
The grants are funded by the Making Space for Nature programme, which is financially supported by Peabody and CLEVER Cities, and delivered by Groundwork, Peabody and The Mayor of London.
Aims
- Make Thamesmead greener, healthier and wilder
- Provide opportunities for everyone to connect with, enjoy and learn about the natural environment
- Support people who want to make a positive impact in their local community
- Help turn great ideas into real projects
- Use nature as a way to bring people together and learn new skills
Funding Information
There are two funds available:
- Green Guardian Grant (micro grant): £200 to £400 for localised small greening projects or nature-based activities
- Nature Hero Grant (larger grant): £400 to £2000 for more visible greening projects or nature-based activities
Eligible Projects
- Bring more nature, planting and space for wildlife in Thamesmead
- Benefit people in Thamesmead by providing opportunities and/or activities for people to connect with, enjoy, and learn about nature
- Benefit other residents and strengthen communities
- Encourage residents to take an active role in designing and delivering the project
- Demonstrate value for money
- Include maintenance plans to ensure that what is achieved lasts beyond the projects end
- Be environmentally friendly
Eligibility Criteria
Residents living in Thamesmead and local groups can apply. They will consider applications from groups and individuals not based in Thamesmead, provided they can demonstrate a strong local link, and the proposed project benefits residents of Thamesmead.
