The European Union (EU) is currently accepting proposals from eligible organizations for a programme entitled “Support to Civil Society in Zimbabwe: Promoting democratic participation, good governance and accountability” in order to contribute to economic recovery, democratisation, peace and stability.
The programme is divided into two lots:
- Lot 1 (EUR 3,500,000): To enhance the role of civil society, including those organisations addressing gender equality, and the rights of marginalised groups, in the promotion of transparency, good governance and accountability, including internal accountability, enabling them to meaningfully participate in the policy cycle.
- Lot 2 (EUR 1,500,000): To strengthen Civil Society’s watchdog role in the implementation of the National Indicative Programme (NIP) focal sectors of governance and institution building, health and agriculture-based economic development for improved, accountable and effective development outcomes as well as sustainability.
Size of Grants
Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between the following minimum and maximum amounts:
- For Lot 1
- minimum amount: EUR 500,000
- maximum amount: EUR 3,500,000
- For Lot 2
- minimum amount: EUR 500,000
- maximum amount: EUR 1,500,000
Location
Actions must take place in Zimbabwe.
Duration
The initial planned duration of an action may not be lower than 30 months nor exceed 42 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must:
- be a legal person and
- be non-profit-making and
- be a specific type of organisation such as: Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and their associations and
- be established in a Member State of the European Union or in Zimbabwe or in any country eligible for the European Development Fund
- be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary and
- have demonstrated capacity and experience of at least two years in managing activities of a scale corresponding to at least half of the size and in the sector of the grant requested.
- Political parties or entities affiliated to political parties are not eligible under this Call.
- Potential applicants may not participate in calls for proposals or be awarded grants if they are in any of the situations
- The lead applicant must declare that the lead applicant himself, the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity (ies) are not in any of these situations.
- The lead must act with co-applicant(s) as specified hereafter.
- Applicants who are established in a country other than Zimbabwe, must act with at least one Zimbabwean co-applicant.
How to Apply
- The application procedure consists of two phases:
- Concept notes
- Full applications
- In the first instance, only concept notes must be submitted for evaluation. Thereafter, lead applicants who have been pre-selected will be invited to submit a full application.
