The Australia Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is inviting applications for the Australia Awards Scholarship in Vanuatu.
Australia Awards are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drive change as well as build enduring people-to-people links between Vanuatu, Australia, and the region.
Applicants are assessed on their leadership qualities, academic competence, and their potential to contribute to development outcomes in Vanuatu.

Priority Fields
- agriculture, fisheries, forestry, biosecurity
- communications and journalism
- community services (including gender, disability, and community development studies)
- economics, commerce, business, and accounting
- engineering and information technology
- environment and climate change
- foreign policy and national security
- health and education
- humanitarian and disaster management
- monitoring and evaluation
- policing and justice
- public administration, management, human resources, planning, and project management
Level of Study
Awards will be offered for commencement in 2023 for:
- Bachelor degrees,
- Master degrees, and
- Diplomas (Technical and Vocational Education Training) in fields that meet the needs outlined in the NHRDP.
Australia Awards Benefits
- Australia Awards Scholarships are offered for the minimum period to complete the academic program specified by the education institution and any preparatory training.
- Scholarships will generally include the following:
- introductory academic program
- full tuition fees
- return air travel
- a one-off establishment allowance payable on arrival
- a fortnightly contribution to living expenses
- overseas student health cover
- supplementary academic support
- fieldwork allowance (for research and master’s students which have a compulsory fieldwork component).
Eligibility Criteria
- Country-specific eligibility criteria
- Applicants from Vanuatu must also have:
- Bachelor level
- Senior Secondary (Anglophone): Form 7 grades of A+, A, or B for the top four subjects, including English, or (if still to complete Form 7) Form 6 grades of 1 or 2 for the top four subjects, including English.
- Senior Secondary (Francophone): Grades of 12+ (out of 20) for all subjects in the most recent year of study.
- Master level
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 across university transcript or equivalent (e.g. 12 out of 20, Francophone). A lower GPA may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
- Diploma level
- All institution course pre-requisites including strong English language skills
