Proposals funded under these arrangements will deliver one or more of the following results in the project area:
- Greater proportion of elementary children in the project area reaching or exceeding the appropriate literacy and numeracy levels for grades Pre-elementary, years 1 and 2; and demonstrating the skills and readiness to move to the next grade
- Increase community awareness of early childhood education issues and the importance of reading and enrolling children into school on time (especially girls) through increased parent and community participation and involvement in reading programs (so that parents are not excluded from their child’s learning experiences)
- Children demonstrate a greater access and use of library and school reading materials
- Closing the gap in enrolment and retention between girls and boys in elementary schools, and
- Elementary teachers (women and men) are more confident in utilising the new elementary teacher resources recently provided by National Department of Education, measured both by anecdotal feedback (semi-structured interviews) and the Department’s Monitoring and Evaluation indicators.
