The Reaps Moss Community Benefits Fund is now open for applications to provide an annual Community Benefit Fund of approximately £10,000 for community projects.
Purpose
- The Fund is open to any community project which is for the benefit of residents of the local area.
- The Fund will provide both capital (e.g. materials, equipment) and revenue (e.g staff and running costs) funding.
Funding Information
- The Fund will allow groups to apply for grants between £250 and £3,500. There will be a single application round each year.
- For applications of over £2,500, priority will be given to groups that can demonstrate they will be making a contribution towards the project. This might be cash from the group, a grant from another fund that has been secured or a pending grant application. It could also be a gift in-kind of labour and / or materials.
Types of Projects

Some examples of the type of projects the Fund will support are given below:
- Projects to improve public amenities e.g. community halls, sports facilities
- Footpath works
- Environmental and wildlife projects including projects to improve public parks and open spaces
- Activities / events to engage the local community
- Energy efficiency or renewable energy projects, such as insulation, efficient boilers or small scale renewable energy installations.
Eligibility Criteria
Local groups that have a written constitution, a set of rules or a governing document, and a bank account with two signatories. Individuals and commercial organisations cannot apply.
Eligible Organisations
- Voluntary and community groups
- Charities (delivering local services)
- Parish and Town Councils
- Local Authorities (if they are applying on behalf of a community organisation)
- Schools and educational establishments
- Social enterprises (including credit unions, co-operatives, social firms, and community owned enterprises, community interest companies and development trusts) provided they operate on a not-for-profit basis.
- Applicants are required to have a written constitution, a set of rules, or a governing document and a bank or building society account, held in the name of the organisation, in place before applying for a grant.
Judging Criteria

The main criteria used when assessing applications received will be:
- The social, economic and environmental benefits which will result from the project.
- The level of community support for and involvement in the project.
- Other factors will also be considered which must be demonstrated in the application.
- The ability of the applicant to deliver the project.
- How the work will be continued after the project has been completed i.e. its sustainability and legacy.
- Value for money.
- For applications above £2,500, does the application demonstrate any contribution towards the project by the applicant organisation, for example match funding or a gift in-kind of labour and / or materials.
