The District of North Vancouver is pleased to announce its Municipal community grants to support not-for-profit organizations serving North Shore residents.
North Shore municipalities provide these grants in order to assist groups with the delivery of services, which work to reduce social, economic, or physical disadvantages, or improve the quality of life for residents.
Purpose
To provide financial support to non-profit organizations which are working with each other, government and residents to address North Shore community social issues and needs, and bring about positive social change for North Vancouver District residents.
Goals
- To assist vulnerable populations.
- To promote a healthy, caring, safe and supportive community for all.
- To promote equity of opportunity, of access, of outcome.
- To provide services directed to residents who experience disadvantage or discrimination.
- To support capacity building (of individuals, groups and communities).
- To promote the ongoing well-being of community residents.
What They Fund?
- Operating costs of an agency.
- Direct social services.
- Prevention.
- Education.
- Advocacy.
- Enhancement/augmentation of provincial or federal programs.
- Collaboration/partnerships.
Projects
- Projects that address the broad determinants of population health (such as poverty, inclusion, social support networks, housing, diversity, special needs, addiction).
- Initiatives that allow older adults to maintain their dignity and independence in their community of choice.
- Capacity building for individuals, groups and communities.
- Promoting the development of the innate capacities of individuals and families, as well as their communities, to grow and adapt to change.
- Prevention and promotion activities in such areas as mental health, sexual abuse, violence, childhood injuries and other areas of critical need.
Eligibility Criteria
You can apply for a grant if your organization:
- Is not-for-profit.
- Provides services to residents of the municipality you are requesting funding from.
- Is looking for sources of funding other than North Shore municipal community grants.
- Can provide your latest financial statement as proof of financial responsibility.
Guiding Principles
- The Municipal Community Service Grants support innovation or ongoing programs where there is demonstrated commitment, the likelihood of effectiveness, and strong potential to serve as a model to others.
- Projects should build on the strengths of the community to respond to identified issues and priorities
- Projects should use, enhance, mobilize or expand the skills, capacities and assets of local people and their community.
- Where appropriate, those affected by the initiative should be involved in the development, implementation and evaluation of the project.
- The organization should demonstrate a commitment to the project through a contribution of human and/or financial resources.
- Significant and appropriate support from other funding sources (including the community) should be evident.
- There should be evidence of collaboration and cooperation with the community and/or other agencies in the field.
- The organization should demonstrate inclusiveness and respect for diversity.
