The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) requests pre-applications for the SCRI for fiscal year (FY) 2023 to solve critical United States specialty crop issues, priorities, or problems through the integration of research and extension activities that use systems-based, trans-disciplinary approaches.
The intent of the SCRI program is to address the needs of the various specialty crop industries through the promotion of collaboration, open communication, the exchange of information, and the development of resources that accelerate application of scientific discovery and technology. The priorities of SCRI reflects the needs of the specialty crops industries.
Goals
The SCRI program is aligned with the following USDA Strategic Plan:
- Strategic Goal 1: Combat Climate Change to Support America’s Working Lands, Natural Resources and Communities.
- Strategic Goal 2: Ensure America’s Agricultural System is Equitable, Resilient, and Prosperous.
- Strategic Goal 3: Foster an Equitable and Competitive Marketplace for All Agricultural Producers.
- Strategic Goal 4: Provide All Americans Safe, Nutritious Food.
- Strategic Goal 5: Expand Opportunities for Economic Development and Improve Quality of Life in Rural and Tribal Communities.

- The amount available for support of this program in FY 2023 is approximately $80,000,000.
- Award Ceiling: $10,000,000
- Award Floor: $50,000
Eligibility Criteria
Pre-applicationsmay only be submitted by Federal agencies, national laboratories, colleges and universities, research institutions and organizations, private organizations or corporations, State Agricultural Experiment Stations, individuals, or groups consisting of two or more of these entities.
