The Embassy of Canada in Amman, Jordan, is seeking proposals for its Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) for the 2017/2018 fiscal year.
The CFLI is a funding mechanism managed by the Embassy of Canada in Amman, which funds small but visible, results-oriented, high impact projects in Jordan, Iraq and Syria.

2017-2018 CFLI Priorities
Projects must address the identified needs of local communities and must fall within one of the 2017-2018 CFLI priorities:
- For Jordan and Iraq, the proposals must focus on at least one of the following two priorities:
- Empowering women and girls and promoting gender equality
- Championing human rights, inclusive and accountable governance, democracy, peaceful pluralism, and respect for diversity
- For Syria, the proposals must focus on at least one of the following three priorities:
- Championing inclusive and accountable governance, peaceful pluralism and human rights;
- Promoting stability and security, including through local initiatives which bolster peace efforts;
- Empowering women and girls and promoting gender equality.
Emphasis will be placed on innovative, accountable and sustainable projects. Initiatives aimed at producing concrete results will be prioritized over sensitization workshops and training sessions with limited audiences.
Funding Information
The CFLI seeks to support projects proposed and implemented by officially registered local and international non-profit NGOs, with a value of up to a maximum of $50,000 Canadian dollars.
Eligibility Criteria
- Priority will be given to proposals from registered local non-governmental, community, educational and not-for-profit organizations operating in Jordan, Iraq and working on Syrian issues; however, Canadian and international NGOs operating in Jordan, Iraq and working on Syrian issues through local offices, as well as municipal governments in Jordan and Iraq are eligible to apply;
- Projects must be local and be situated in Jordan and Iraq, or focus on relevant Syrian issues.
