The Technical Assistance for Civil Society Organisations (TACSO) is currently seeking applications for its “Participation in Storytelling Capacity Building Activity for CSOs” to strengthen the overall capacities and accountability of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) within the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) beneficiaries; to guarantee the quality of services of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs); and to create a sustainable role of CSOs in the democratic and European integration processes.
The main purposes of the project are to:
- Increase and improve the capacity and actions of CSOs; and to
- Improve the democratic role of CSOs.
Message development and storytelling were recognised as areas where CSOs need additional assistance. Storytelling is the social and cultural activity of sharing stories, often with improvisation, theatrics, or embellishment.
Stories or narratives have been shared in every culture as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation and instilling moral values. Messages should be developed, and stories should be told to intrigue a journalist; to inform the public of an organisation’s work and impact; to inspire donors to give; to encourage volunteers to take action; to garner support from communities to the organisation’s causes; to motivate the staff to aim higher, to spark an advocacy revolution, and to build trust and confidence in the CSOs’ cause.
Benefits
- Selected CSOs will receive expert assistance in enhancing their message development and storytelling skills.
- They will also be assisted with story creation and the identification of audiences and appropriate communication channels.
Eligibility Criteria
- Formally registered CSO in one or more of the Western Balkans countries and Turkey
- Selection Criteria:
- Applicant’s awareness about how the scope of its work contributes to improvements in the lives of its beneficiaries and constituencies, and why the activities of the organisation are needed to the community the applicant operates in;
- Ability of the applicant to clearly demonstrate why better-shaped messages about the organisation’s work could contribute to its further performance; or is aware of the current gap between how the organisation is communicating today in comparison to where it wants to be;
- Applicant has an internal strategic plan;
- Has and uses at least one online communication channel (Web Site, social media, etc.);
- Has at least one person designated to work on communication issues with a strong command of the English language.
