Deadline: 08-Sep-2025
The French Sport Fund, an initiative from the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of France in Ethiopia, is a new program designed to back small-scale sports projects.
An excellent opportunity has been announced to support the development of sports in Ethiopia. The fund is specifically targeting Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations, sports federations, and the Olympic Committee.
The initiative is part of a broader commitment to promote sports and support youth, especially following the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. A key focus is on inclusiveness, with a particular emphasis on gender equality and supporting people with disabilities. Projects that operate outside of urban areas and promote inclusion will receive special attention.
The call for proposals for 2025 outlines three main areas of focus. The first is to support projects that increase access to and participation in parasport for young people with disabilities, aiming to boost visibility and regular practice of adaptive sports. The second is for projects that use sports to promote gender equality and social inclusion, especially for girls and marginalized youth. Finally, the fund supports projects that develop new urban sports like breakdancing, skateboarding, and BMX freestyle among the youth.
Eligible organizations can apply for financial support of up to 25,000 EUR. To be considered, applicants must be a legally registered Ethiopian Civil Society Organization, an Ethiopian sports federation, or the Olympic committee. They should have one to five years of operational experience in the field. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate their ability to collaborate with other organizations, strengthen local capacities, and manage a project of the proposed scale.
