The Creative Europe Programme (CREA) has announced a call for proposals under its Cross-Sectoral Strand to support innovative, cross-border media literacy initiatives that adapt to the evolving digital media landscape across Europe.
The specific objective to promote policy cooperation and innovative actions supporting all strands of the Programme and to promote a diverse, independent and pluralistic media environment and media literacy, thereby fostering freedom of artistic expression, intercultural dialogue and social inclusion, one of the priorities of the Cross-Sectoral Strand is to promote cross-sectoral activities that aim at adjusting to the structural and technological changes faced by the media, including enhancing a free, diverse, and pluralistic media environment, quality journalism and media literacy including in the digital environment.
The Cross-Sectoral Strand shall provide support to cross-cutting actions that support the news media sector, which shall promote media literacy in order to enable citizens to use, and develop a critical understanding of, the media and support knowledge sharing and exchanges on media literacy policies and practices. The objective of the call is to encourage innovative cross-border media literacy projects and practices across Europe among various population segments, addressing the challenges of a continuously changing digital media landscape.
With an estimated budget of EUR 3,000,000, this funding opportunity seeks to advance projects that foster critical media understanding, promote independent journalism, and reinforce public trust in the media sector. Projects supported under this call should not normally exceed 24 months in duration.
The Creative Europe Programme’s Cross-Sectoral Strand aims to strengthen the capacity of the European media environment through initiatives that enhance media literacy, foster cooperation, and support creative adaptation to digital transformation. This call for proposals is intended to build a resilient and pluralistic media landscape by encouraging innovative cross-border collaborations that reach diverse audiences and promote informed media engagement.
Eligible applicants include legal entities—both public and private—established in Creative Europe participating countries. This includes EU Member States, overseas countries and territories, and non-EU countries associated with the Programme, such as EEA members and others listed in the official participating countries list.
Through this initiative, the Creative Europe Programme continues its commitment to supporting cultural diversity, creative collaboration, and media innovation across Europe, ensuring that citizens are equipped to navigate and critically engage with the digital media environment.
