The Australia Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is inviting applications for the Australia Awards Scholarship in Palestinian Territories.
Australia Awards are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia. Scholarships are open to Palestinian residents of the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem.
Applicants will be assessed on their professional and personnel qualities, academic competence, and, most importantly, their potential to impact development challenges in the Palestinian Territories.
The scholarships are aimed at mid-career professionals furthering their careers through study.

Level of study
- Awards will be offered for commencement in 2023 and are only for the master’s degree level at an Australian tertiary institution.
- Australia Awards scholarships to the Palestinian Territories do not include Bachelor’s or Ph.D. level degrees.
Australia Awards Benefits
- Australia Awards scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian education institution, including any preparatory training.
- Scholarship recipients will receive the following:
- return air travel
- a one-off establishment allowance on arrival
- full tuition fees
- contribution to living expenses
- introductory academic program
- overseas student health cover for the duration of the scholarship
- supplementary academic support
- fieldwork allowance for research students and masters by coursework which has a compulsory fieldwork component.
Eligibility Criteria
- English language proficiency
- An applicant offered a scholarship must have achieved an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 or higher (with no individual band score of less than 6.0) or an equivalent TOEFL or PTE score.
- Commencement of study
- All scholarships must be taken up in the year they are awarded. Should an awardee not be able to commence study in 2023, the scholarship will be withdrawn.
- Country-specific conditions
- In addition to the eligibility requirements, candidates from the Palestinian Territories must also meet the following conditions:
- For Palestinian Authority employees:
- applicants must have a documented Academic IELTS score of at least 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 when applying to be considered for conditional awards
- priority will be given to candidates who do not already hold a master’s degree
- priority will be given to candidates who have not received a scholarship from other scholarship programs
- must be an employee of the Palestinian Authority with at least two years of experience
- must have the support of their Ministry and must return to work in their ministry on completion of the scholarship
- have a bachelor degree
- receive a final endorsement from their ministry.
- Private sector, NGOs staff, and candidates from Palestinian Universities must:
- have a bachelor degree
- have documented Academic IELTS results with an overall score of at least 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 when applying to be considered for conditional awards
- must return to work in the Palestinian Territories on completion of the scholarship.
- For Palestinian Authority employees:
