Applicants are invited to apply for the Netherlands Fund for Regional Partnerships (NFRP) “Shiraka” program to support sustainable transition in the MENA Region. Shiraka was launched in 2016 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a successor to the Matra South Programme.
Projects funded from Shiraka are intended to support initiatives of local organizations that contribute to societal transformation. To be eligible for a contribution under the Shiraka Program, activities must relate to:
- Economic growth; income generating activities that promote local development and encourage tourism in rural areas.
- Support the “Made in Jordan” identity and products (with focus on marketing) from local communities.
Criteria
- Only national (local) non-governmental and non-profit organizations can apply.
- Duration of the project must be 2-3 years.
- A minimum indicative budget of JOD 150.000 and maximum budget of JOD 300.000. maximum overhead allowed is 7% of the total budget.
- Activities are to be implemented in Jordan only.
- Charitable activities, research studies, academic courses, workshops/training abroad and equipment are ineligible for funding.
Selection procedure
The assessment procedure shall consider the following components:
- The proposed activity relates to one or more of the highlighted priorities;
- The concept note contains a specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-related realization of its objective(s);
- The proposed budget is realistic and cost-effective;
- The activity is sustainable;
- Gender is a cross-cutting theme in the proposed intervention;
- Youth are involved in the project;
- Novel and innovative intervention is part of the project;
- Communication with relevant stakeholders such as officials and community representatives is present;
- The past performance of the applicant, including the effectiveness of past projects, activities or initiatives;
- The activities do not consist of cultural activities, such as art or theatre. These areas are ineligible for the funding framework.
