Applications are now open for the 7th Edition of the Mobility Grant Program 2023 to encourage artists to create or experiment together.
It offers them technical and financial means to test, produce and develop new ideas with a transcultural dimension, while establishing strong links with the host area.
E²² will host simultaneously one French artist, one Japanese artist, one Brazilian artist, one South Korean artists for 6 consecutive weeks.
As a residency for creation and experimentation, the project offers candidates the opportunity to meet, exchange and emulate with other residents from different cultures. It offers the conditions to conceive and produce a new work, as well as to conduct an original and experimental work, in a particular context, that of cultural mixity.
Theme
During the residency, the artists will be asked to question their own work in relation to the notion of circulation of works and mobility in art in anticipation of a possible participation in the MOBILITY circulation project developed by E²², a project of residencies and itinerant exhibitions between Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Tokyo (Japan) and Séoul (South Korea).
Conditions
- Number of artists : 1 from each country (4 in total)
- Duration of residency: 6 weeks
- Residency period: September – October
- The artists benefit from :
- A residency grant of 1000 euros
- A production budget of 1000 euros
- Accommodation in an equipped artist’s studio
- A transportation allowance including a round trip to the place of residency.
Eligibility Criteria
- The project is aimed at artists with a professional practice, regardless of age, career, medium. Basic English communication skill is required so as to exchange ideas and develop works and exhibitions together with the other residency artists.
- The choice of the artists will be made on the basis of their application, by evaluating the relevance of the projects presented and their coherence with the artistic direction of the residency.
- The selected artists, one artist from each country, will be invited to an interview by video conference if possible or by telephone if necessary.
- Composition of the jury : The applications will be studied by a college of E²²’s partner curators and composed of a selection committee for each country. Each regional selection committee (France, Japan, Brazil, South Korea) will provide necessary cultural knowledge to help the whole jury team to properly designate the finalists, that is to say one artist from each country.
Terms and Conditions
Once selected, the reciprocal commitments between the association, the host site and the residents will be established by agreement.
- The residents commit themselves:
- To present their work, at the beginning of their stay, to the whole team.
- To participate in a collective exhibition/restitution at La Chartreuse de Villeneuve lez Avignon CIRCA, partner place since 2017.
- The association brings a regular support to each artist by accompanying him in the follow-up of his production. It informs them of the cultural and material resources of the region and facilitates their access to them.
- It puts him/her in contact with the cultural actors of its network at the local, national and international levels. Technical assistance within the limits of the structure’s means.
