AIFA is seeking applications for its grant program to support innovative early stage projects, encourage collaborative research, prioritises early career researchers (working 3-5 years after completion of their PhD) and provide opportunities to leverage further funding.
AIFA aims to improve the health of people living with allergy and immune diseases by funding medical research and raising public awareness.
AIFA priority is to encourage Early Career Researchers and innovative projects that are trying to get off the ground. We also wish to encourage national collaboration between research institutions. The first AIFA grants were awarded in 2015 and $100,000 has been given to date.
Research Areas
- More research is urgently needed into:
- understanding why allergy and immune/autoimmune diseases are increasing so rapidly
- preventing allergy from occurring in the first place
- detecting immune disease through genetic testing and newborn screening for primary immunodeficiency
- potential new treatments and cures for these diseases
- High quality education programs are urgently required to:
- increase awareness in the community
- further educate health professionals
- improve access to care
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible for an AIFA grant, applicants need to be associated with a non-profit institution in Australia or New Zealand, with the facilities to carry out the research detailed in the application.
- Applications are not restricted to ASCIA members.
