The Auckland Council is offering grants under “Albert-Eden Local Board Accommodation Fund”.
Priorities
- They welcome grant applications that align to the following priorities:
- They are proud to live in Albert-Eden and feel like they belong.
- Their people feel safe in their communities.
- Their community is connected and everyone’s involvement is welcomed.
- They feel ownership of their parks, and take care of them.
- Their town centres are attractive to locals and visitors.
- Their local businesses are well-supported and thriving, driving a strong local economy that creates opportunities for everyone.
- Their unique cultural and environmental heritage is identified and protected, as well as being promoted and celebrated.
- They encourage and foster sustainable practices.
- Their natural landscape is healthy and is looked after well.
Higher Priority
- Projects and activities that demonstrate smokefree programmes.
- Match funding – they will consider applications for matching funding. This is where grants are provided in exchange for equal amounts of volunteer labour, cash, or donated goods and services, up to the value of 40 per cent. Applications will be prioritised and assessed under the same priorities as other grants.
- Applicants who have considered other sources of funding for their project.
Lower Priority
- They will also consider applications for other services, projects and activities, but they may identified as lower priorities:
- Commercial entities and their promotion.
- Ticketed events.
- Activities that primarily benefit communities outside the Albert-Eden Local Board area.
- Activities that primarily benefit a third party (e.g. activity to gain money for an organisation).
- Grants to support the purchase of, or maintenance associated with, motor vehicles.
- Wages or operational costs.
- Projects and activities in schools unless it benefits the wider community, is accessible to the public or wider community, or has environmental or climate change initiatives.
- Catering.
- Fundraising activities for a group or organisation.
- Gifts and prizes.
- Purchase of assets and equipment with limited future use.
- Eligible initiatives that can be funded by central government.
- Travel unless there is strong evidence of the benefits to the community.
Funding Information
- Grant value: $2500 – $20,000.
Types of Grants
- The Community Grants Policy has three main grant types:
- local grant programmes – each local board has now adopted a grants programme regional grant programmes
- multi-board grants: applicants can apply to three or more local boards for the same project. Applicants will need to apply to the local board with the earliest closing date.

Eligibility Criteria
- Community organisations with a formal legal structure
- Groups or individuals with no formal legal structure can apply for up to $1,000 (Kaipatiki Local Board will not fund individuals)
- Applicants seeking funding over $1,000 will need to nominate an umbrella organisation or
- Receive funding retrospectively.
Funding Criteria
- Community groups and organisations applying for this fund need to consider the following criteria:
- You need to be a community organisation, as outlined in the Community Grants Policy.
- Your accommodation costs are for the period 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024.
- You provide evidence of the accommodation costs.
- Your organisation doesn’t hold an Auckland Council community lease or community occupancy agreement.
- Your organisation is located in the area and primarily benefits the residents of the Albert-Eden local board area.
- Your organisation has been operating for a full financial year prior to the application date, and has provided its last full year financial statements and/or audited accounts.
- If the applicant is requesting a grant for a venue that has an Auckland Council community lease or community occupancy agreement, the council’s approval for the sub-lease or hireage needs to be verified by the applicant.
- The application cannot be for hireage costs of a council-managed venue or externally managed council facility.
- The application is not for religious ministry activities.
- Your organisation is not a political party, and the grant requested is not for the purposes of a political party.

- Their grants programme will support the following outcomes:
- A strong sense of community.
- Their parks are enjoyed by all.
- Their community spaces are well-used by everybody.
- They have thriving town centres and a growing local economy.
- Travelling around their area is safe and easy.
- Their natural and cultural heritage is valued.
- They respect and protect their environment.
