HelpAge Canada is offering grants to community-based seniors’ services organizations, so they can provide older people in their communities with the equipment, services, and social programs they need to stay healthy, engaged, and active.
The Age Better program supports nationwide, regional, and local initiatives that are focused on improving the lives of aging Canadians currently facing barriers to inclusion:
- Living with financial insecurity
- Living with a high level of health needs
- Living in underserved areas
Programs
- Age Better Well-Being Grant 2024
- The Well-Being Grant aims to improve the quality of life of low-income older adults. Selected Canadian community-based seniors services’ (CBSS) organizations will be awarded with a grant of up to $10,000 to provide older adults in their communities with essential mobility and communication-enhancing equipment or devices, or access to vital day-to-day support services. For 2024, priority support services are related to food access. The goal is to support older adults to live more comfortably, safely, and independently in their homes and communities.
- Purpose of the Grant:
- This grant is intended to support community-based seniors’ services (CBSS) organizations in:
- Promoting Independence: By funding essential mobility and communication devices, this grant helps older adult to lead more independent lives, participate fully in their communities, and connect meaningfully with those around them.
- Enhancing Safety: By funding installations such as ramps, handrails, lifts, and grab bars, this grant helps to safeguard the health and well-being of older adults and improve accessibility in the home.
- Supporting Daily Living: By funding services that support daily living at home, such as meal delivery services, this grant helps to ensure that older people are able to live at home with dignity and autonomy.

- This granting opportunity is available only to CRA registered charities and qualified donees.
- Age Better Innovative Programming 2024
- The Innovative Programming Grant aims to empower local communities to best respond to the needs of low-income older adults that they serve. Selected Canadian community-based seniors services’ (CBSS) organizations will be awarded with a grant of up to $10,000 to directly deliver programs that address the needs of older persons and enhance their wellbeing. This can include programs focusing on physical and mental health, social inclusion, financial or occupational stability, spiritual and emotional wellness, cognition, environmental and community relationships, and more.
- Purpose of the Grant
- By supporting Innovative Programs, HelpAge Canada will further the intended impacts:
- Older adults experience dignity and joy as they age
- Older adults exercise their voice and choice in wellbeing
- Older adults are active, resilient, and healthy
- Older adults experience belonging and meaningful social connection
- Communities know, appreciate, and serve the needs of aging adults
- By supporting Innovative Programs, HelpAge Canada will further the intended impacts:
- Eligibility:
- This granting opportunity is available only to CRA registered charities and qualified donees.
- New, existing or ongoing programs are eligible under this granting stream.
- Programs must commence by December 31, 2024
- Applicants must demonstrate how the HelpAge Canada grant will contribute to the total program budget, if the program budget is larger than $10,000.
- Food access services (such as Meals on Wheels) should be submitted under the Well-Being grant for 2024. Innovative nutrition or food-based programs (that may still include a meal) can be applied for in this granting stream.
- Organizations may only hold one HelpAge Canada Innovative Programming grant at a time.
