The European Journalism Centre (EJC) is seeking applications for its Global Health Journalism Grant Program with an aim to promote innovative reports on the topic of global health in developing countries.
Themes
- A strong, innovative topic is the most important part of the application.
- Submitted projects must address the issue of global health and have a connection with Germany. Reporting should provide a concrete link between the issue and the global health policy of Germany, or the activities of either health-related governmental organizations or local NGOs.
- The reports must be produced in the German language and published in German media. At least one “Letter of Intent” (a commitment of publication) of a relevant medium is required in which an editor confirms the intention to publish the planned reportage. Less relevant media or media outside of Germany are welcome for additional publications.
Grant Information
The scholarships amount to € 10,000 and the program is aimed exclusively at freelance journalists.
Country Focus
The projects must take place in one or several developing countries or Least Developed Countries (LDCs), former Soviet Union countries, China and countries covered by a US embargo (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan , Syria).
Eligibility Criteria
- Only freelance journalists are eligible to apply for this grant.
- The freelancers should be experienced in the relevant fields of health, science and development.
- Journalists using multiple platforms are strongly encouraged to apply. The story should be innovative in topic, angle, approach and format. As such, we are investigating and investigating data journalism, data visualization, video and multimedia production and the application of social media in the dissemination.
