The Doha International Family Institute (DIFI) and the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) have launched the OSRA research grant which is an annual research grant on Arab families and family policy related issues.
The goal of this call is to encourage research on Family cohesion, marriage and divorce, Families at risk, Parenthood, Social policy research related to families that contributes to the development of evidence-based policies and programs to promote the well-being of families.
Objectives
- Support high quality empirical work that advances research on Arab families
- Support high quality social policy research related to families
- Provide policymakers with evidence-based research and analysis that encourages the formation and/or modification of family-related policies
- Develop research capacity on issues related to Arab families
- Develop research areas within Qatar in support of the Qatar National Research Strategy (QNRS)
Priority Areas
- Family cohesion, marriage and divorce: family relationships, family resilience; ageing families; extended families; intergenerational solidarity, division of household; stepfamilies; dual-career families; work-life reconciliation; childfree families; patterns of marriage formation; marriage and immigration; social and individual risk factors associated with divorce; the impact of divorce on children.
- Families at risk: the impact of wars and conflicts on families; impact of poverty and economic stress on families; families with children with disabilities; marginalized/ socially excluded families; domestic violence; internally displaced families.
- Parenthood: parenting styles and practices; parenting and child well-being; father’s involvement; motherhood; fatherhood; delayed parenthood; transition to parenthood; responsible parenting.
- Social policy research related to families: family formation policies, social welfare policies; social protection policies, child care policies, assessment of family support policies and programs; work-family balance policies; child protection policies; domestic violence policies; housing policies.
Funding Information
The grant awards each proposal team up to $50, 000 USD for a maximum period of one year.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility of Proposal
- The proposal must be within one or more of the specific research priority areas indicated
- The proposal must include at least a Key Investigator (KI) (Lead Principal Investigator (LPI) or Principal Investigator (PI)) from an Arab country.
- At least 60% of the proposed funded research efforts and budget must be conducted inside the Arab countries.
- Renewal applications of previous OSRA grants are disallowed, as is the submission of unawarded proposals
Eligibility of Submitting Institution
- Applicants from all countries are allowed.
- For Qatar-based institutions, only institutions with QNRF approved ROs are eligible to submit proposals. ROs located inside Qatar are eligible to register at any time with QNRF
- Proposals should be within the research area(s) of the submitting institutions as declared by the approved ROs.
- For institutions based outside Qatar, only academic and research institutions are eligible to submit proposals.
- For institutions based outside Qatar, DIFI will act as the Grant Proposal Administrator and will handle the vetting and other RO responsibilities.
- The institution of the LPI from Qatar will be considered the submitting institution while institutions of LPIs from countries outside Qatar will be called international submitting institutions.
- Institutions other than the submitting institutions will be considered as collaborating institutions.
- Authorized Research Office Representatives (ARORs) and other research administrators who are members of the RO are not eligible to participate in any OSRA projects.
