Applications are now open for the Australia Awards Scholarships in Vanuatu.
Australia Awards scholarships are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia.
Applicants are assessed on their professional and personal qualities, academic competence and, most importantly, their potential to impact on development outcomes in Vanuatu.
Applications are strongly encouraged from women and people with disability.
Priority fields of Study
- Agriculture, fisheries, forestry, biosecurity;
- Communications and journalism;
- Community services (including disability studies and community development);
- Economics, commerce, business studies, business administration and accounting;
- Engineering and information technology;
- Environment and climate change;
- Foreign policy and national security;
- Health and education;
- Monitoring and evaluation;
- Policing and justice;
- Public administration, management, human resources, planning and project management.
Australia Awards Benefits
Australia Awards Scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary to complete the academic program specified by the education institution, including any preparatory training.
Scholarships will generally include the following:
- Introductory academic program;
- Full tuition fees;
- Return air travel;
- A one off establishment allowance on arrival;
- A contribution to living expenses;
- Overseas student health cover for the duration of the scholarship;
- Supplementary academic support;
- Fieldwork allowance (for research students and masters by course work that has a compulsory fieldwork component).
Level of study
Awards will be offered for commencement in 2021 for:
- Undergraduate study (Diploma, Bachelor), and
- Postgraduate study (Graduate Diploma or Masters)
Where can you study?
- Australia Awards Scholarships provide citizens of Vanuatu with the opportunity to obtain a tertiary qualification at an Australian tertiary institution.
- Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships are for study at the University of the South Pacific or Fiji National University.
Preparatory Training
Successful applicants will be required to attend:
- IELTS preparation program;
- Pre-departure briefing;
- University’s Introductory Academic Program;
- Other required preparatory study on arrival in Australia.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must meet all eligibility criteria detailed in the Australia Awards Scholarships Policy Handbook or the Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships Policy Handbook. This includes that the applicant must reside in Vanuatu at the time of application.
- Applicants must inform the Australian High Commission of any connection or relationship to staff employed at the Australian High Commission, Port Vila, or with any Australian funded program staff so the application can be managed appropriately to avoid a conflict of interest.
- Applicants must have achieved an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 or higher (with no individual band score of less than 6.0) or an equivalent TOEFL or PTE score. Scores must be valid on 1 January 2021.
Conditions
In addition to the eligibility requirements, candidates from Vanuatu must also meet the following conditions:
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Grades of 1 (Distinction) or 2 (Merit) for the top four subjects, including English, for the highest year of school passed.
