Is your institution interested in establishing partnerships in Japan? Could you use a small grant to set international programming in motion? You’re in luck.
Cultural Vistas, together with the United States-Japan Bridging Foundation (USJBF), is offering a series of micro-grants namely “TeamUp Micro-Grant Competition” aimed at spurring partnerships for U.S. higher education institutions with counterparts in Japan.
TeamUp is a campaign funded by the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo and facilitated by the United States-Japan Bridging Foundation (USJBF) to increase the number of American and Japanese undergraduate and graduate students studying in each other’s country by expanding relevant, active, mutually beneficial and innovative agreements among American and Japanese institutions of higher education.
Awards and Benefits
- Up to $7,000 each to cover one or two representatives’ travel to Japan for planning meetings with a potential partner, or other creative utility of the funds
- The funds should cover one or two representatives’ travel to Japan for planning meetings with a potential partner(s), but the campaign encourages creative utility of the funds as well.
- International flights must be by U.S. air carriers or on a code-share, but booked by the U.S. carrier (“Fly America Act”)
- All institutions will be encouraged to seek supplemental or matching funds from their universities to cover any additional costs of finalizing an agreement with a new partner.
- Access to resources about best practices in establishing partnerships
- Training modules to prepare grant awardees for their travels to Japan
Eligibility Criteria
- Demonstrated interest in generating U.S.-Japan institutional partnerships
- Higher education professionals—preferably senior international officers, or those involved in the establishment of international institutional partnerships
- Ability to participate in and fulfill all program activities
- Priority will be given to historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), community colleges, women’s colleges or consortia, and other institutions serving diverse student populations.
