The New Brunswick Arts Board (artsnb) has launched a call for applications for the Career Development program which is designed to recognize and encourage arts professionals who have demonstrated exceptional artistic talent and potential, and who are pursuing a career in the arts.
Components
- The program is divided in three components:
- Artist in Residence component is for assistance for participation in residency opportunities of three (3) months and less. The artists in residence are to contribute to the promotion and understanding of the arts by means of the artists’ contact with the clientele of the establishments.
- Professional Development component is for assistance for professional development scholarships for studies and mentorships.
- Professionalization and Promotion component is designed to assist artists to produce tools related to the promotion of the artist’s work and career with a view to broadening the dissemination network for their work and diversifying their sources for funding.
Funding Information
- Artist in Residence: $10,000
- Professional Development: $2,500 for full-time studies OR $1,500 for part-time or short term studies
- Professionalization and Promotion:$1,500
Eligible Projects
- Artist in Residence
- Eligible projects are those in which the applicant has been invited to participate in a residency with a duration of three (3) months or less which will permit the applicant to pursue a specific project relating to their creative work.
- Residencies shall not include regular teaching duties.
- Projects must not be produced for the purposes of academic credit or as part of the applicant’s work as an employee of a private or public organisation or institution.
- Regarding collaborative projects:
- An individual may apply for funding for a collaborative project involving other participants. All participating artists must meet program eligibility criteria.
- Submitting multiple applications for the same project from separate artists is not permitted; only one application per project will be considered by the jury.
- If a grant is awarded, funds will be issued to the primary applicant only.
- Professional Development
- Eligible projects are those in which the applicant intends to study one of the eligible artistic disciplines by enrolling in:
- A full-time or part-time post-secondary program; or
- A full-time program in a school specializing in the arts; or
- Short-term studies or mentorship with a private instructor Doctoral studies are not eligible.
- In addition to the eligible artistic disciplines listed above, studies in arts administration are also eligible for this program.
- Eligible projects are those in which the applicant intends to study one of the eligible artistic disciplines by enrolling in:
- Professionalization and Promotion
- Eligible projects must meet one of the following criteria:
- The applicant intends to hire a professional to document their art work for their professional portfolio;
- The applicant intends to collaborate with a professional art critic or independent curator to produce critical documentation pertaining to the artist’s work or their artistic development;
- The applicant intends to hire a professional to
- Develop a website or upgrade an existing website to showcase their professional art work. Projects must not be produced for the purposes of academic credit or as part of the applicant’s work as an employee of a private or public organisation or institution.
- Eligible projects must meet one of the following criteria:
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible artists are those who:
- Meet the professional artist criteria
- Are Canadian citizens or permanent residents;
- Have resided in New Brunswick for at least one year (12 months) prior to the application deadline;
- Have completed any projects previously funded under the Artist in Residence component; and
- Do not have an overdue Final Report for any project funded by artsnb.
- Artist in Residence
- An artist may receive only one Artist in Residence grant per fiscal year (April 1 – March 31).
- Professional Development
- Individuals who come to New Brunswick solely for the purpose of studying at an institution are not eligible.
- Applicants who intend to pursue studies in the arts but do not yet meet professional artist criteria are invited to apply for the Arts Scholarships program.
- Professionalization and Promotion
- An artist may receive only one Career Development: Professionalization and Promotion grant per fiscal year (April 1 – March 31).
