Atkinson Foundation is seeking applications from US organisations to provide assistance, support and training for individuals to attain their highest potential in areas of educational, social, and economic life; to assist their efforts to become independent and self-sufficient; and generally to improve the quality of their lives.
George H. Atkinson (1905 – 1978) and his wife, Mildred M. Atkinson (1904 – 1967), believed in helping individuals and families achieve independent and rewarding lives. In 1939 they initiated the tradition of thoughtful philanthropy that is carried on by the Atkinson Foundation today.
Focus Areas
U.S. organizations serving Southern Mexico & Central America, providing assistance, support, and training for:
- Clean water and sanitation
- Microenterprise and economic development
- Nutrition and food resources
- Health education and family planning
Funding Information
The foundation distributes approximately one million in grants each year. Most grants range between $5,000 and $15,000. Grant amounts vary depending on an organization’s size, project, and need.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible organizations must meet the following guidelines to be considered for grant funding. The foundation supports:
- Public charities operating under an IRS 501(c)(3) status or fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3) organization.
- U. S. nonprofits providing services in southern Mexico or Central America.
