Applicants are encouraged to apply for the Auckland Climate Grant: Response to support community-based climate action.
The grant provides funding support for projects that:
- reduce greenhouse gas emissions through community-based action
- build community resilience to climate impacts
- support Māori-led responses to climate change.
Funding Priorities
For 2023/2024, priority will be given to:
- transport projects
- energy projects
- food projects
- Māori-led projects.
Grant Value
- $1000 – $15,000
Outcomes
- Response grants seek to:
- grow community participation in climate action
- amplify existing community action, particularly among under-served communities such as youth, Pacific peoples, marae and rangatahi.
- This will be achieved through responding to emerging opportunities and connecting with other council programmes including:
- the local board climate activators
- Mātātahi Taiao (rangatahi Māori) climate change project
- sustainable and resilient marae project
- regional community climate catalysts.
- Response grants are one-off grants open to applications from groups who have not previously engaged with climate action activity or are rapidly building capacity in this area.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants to the Auckland Climate Grant Programme can include:
- community groups
- neighborhoods
- mana whenua and mātāwaka applicants
- social enterprises
- businesses and Business Improvement Districts (BIDs)
- education providers (early childhood centres, schools, kura and tertiary institutions)
