Australian Government is seeking applications for Aboriginal Arts Program to provide Aboriginal artists and art organisations with opportunities for professional development to stimulate Aboriginal art forms and practices.
This program supports Tasmanian Aboriginal people to share their culture, stories and heritage through traditional and non-traditional arts and cultural activities.
The program focuses on providing chances for professional growth through mentorships, fellowships and projects that show strong developmental content.
Opportunities may include:
- creative growth projects
- the presentation of your work
- skills growth
- professional growth
- business growth
- mentorships – for new and early career artists and arts workers
- fellowships – for mid-career and established artists and arts workers.
Eligibility Criteria
- As the applicant, you must be:
- a Tasmanian Aboriginal artist who has lived in Tasmania for six of the last 12 months
- a group with at least one Tasmanian Aboriginal member who has lived in Tasmania for six of the last 12 months
- an Aboriginal-led organisation based in Tasmania
- an organisation working on an arts activity with Tasmanian Aboriginal artists.
- You can apply for funds towards:
- creative development (including materials) and research
- presenting work (exhibitions, performances, and publications)
- local, national, or international residencies
- professional development activities including mentorships.

Assessment Criteria
- Applications will be assessed by a panel of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people using the criteria of:
- Quality
- Is the activity conceptually strong?
- Why is the activity important?
- Are the people involved experienced, or show the potential to develop and grow?
- Planning
- Is the activity financially feasible?
- Is the timeline reasonable and achievable?
- What partnerships are in place to help the activity?
- Benefit
- How does the proposed activity benefit the applicant, the artist, or the community?
- What is the audience experience?
- Quality
