Deadline: 30-Jan-23
Are you keen to learn more about the field of animal welfare and develop your research skills? Do you have an idea for a short research project that could have a practical impact on animal welfare? The 2023 Student Grants Call is Now Open!
The Animal Welfare Foundation (AWF) Student Grant Scheme is open to undergraduates studying veterinary medicine, veterinary nursing, animal welfare studies, agricultural sciences, zoology or social sciences.
Projects should be based on sound scientific principals and be of relevance to animal welfare. Please refer to the definition of animal welfare
Scope of Research Project
- They will fund projects on animal welfare topics that are relevant to the veterinary profession and help develop your skills as a researcher. This year they are also accepting projects which are carried out alongside EMS, as long as they are supervised.
What will the grant cover?
- The grants are for intra or extra-curricular projects. They will cover the costs of the project but not overhead costs. Students can claim a stipend for extra-curricular projects.
- They are looking for projects that are likely to be of interest to the veterinary profession. They don’t fund projects on topics such as conservation, ethics or human-animal relationships, unless there is clear, practical animal welfare and veterinary relevance.
Duration: The student grants are for short projects which can last for up to 12 weeks full time during the allocated year. These 12 weeks can be spread out throughout the year. Start, end dates and timings of the project should be clearly stated in the application form.
Eligibility Criteria
- The scheme is open to undergraduates studying veterinary and animal welfare degrees, but students from other disciplines are also welcome to apply if their project is within scope.
- Students must be affiliated with a UK or Irish university or college.
- They will accept applications from students in any year of their course, who will not have graduated by the time their project starts.
