Deadline: 7-Jan-24
The Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is seeking applications to develop an enabling framework for the byproducts of organic waste treatment.
This project should support this objective by demonstrating the methane and CO2 reduction potential from organic waste through composting and anaerobic digestion treatment policies.
The project will develop a mechanism for the implementation of policies to reduce waste generation and enhance separation and treatment of organic waste, focusing on large organic generators, including those from the agricultural sector and food production and commerce at the municipal level.
Funding Information
- Estimated project cost: US$ 160,000 – US$ 200,000.
Expected Results
- Applicants are encouraged to propose additional outputs as needed to ensure the expected project outcomes are achieved. Applicants can determine the scope of outputs if not specified. The project is expected to deliver at a minimum:
- The Government of Argentina has increased capacity to monitor and assess greenhouse gas emissions from organic waste generation in the country by the end of the project.
- Indicator: Number of government entities with a demonstrated improved capacity for SLCP action
- Output 1.1: Assessment quantifying the amount of organic waste treated per unit of production.
- Output 1.2: Emissions inventory of organic waste plants installed in operation to produce compost or digestate in the country.
- Output 1.3: Updated inventories of CH4 and CO2 waste emissions based on new data collected.
- The Government of Argentina endorses policy to enable the use of by-products from organic waste valorization by the end of the project or soon after
- Indicator: Number of laws, regulations, or other policy mechanisms with SLCP targets or mitigation measures formally adopted, endorsed, and/or implemented.
- Output 2.1: Development of a policy that support the enabling frameworks for the recovery and utilization of the by-products (compost, compost tea, biofertilizers) of organic waste valorisation.
- Relevant municipal, provincial, and private stakeholders have increased capacity to valorize organic waste by the end of the project.
- Indicator: Number of non-government entities with a demonstrated improved capacity for SLCP action
- Output 3.1: Training tools for municipal, provincial and private stakeholders in formal professional programs that include the organic treatment approach to mitigate CH4 and CO2 emissions
- Output 3.1: Assessment of different types of organic waste and its potential use as value-added products after treatment.
- The Government of Argentina has increased capacity to monitor and assess greenhouse gas emissions from organic waste generation in the country by the end of the project.
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible for consideration, project proposals must meet the following requirements:
- Complete and submitted before the deadline
- Submitted by a non-governmental organization (NGO), intergovernmental organization (IGO), or other not-for-profit entity. Governments are not eligible to apply directly for funding in this call.
- Requested funding is within the estimated budget amount, or includes a clear justification for additional expenses
- Project duration is less than 24 months
- Budget criteria are met and spending caps on expenses are respected.
- Please note that entities will be required to provide the last three (3) audited financial statements to be considered for CCAC funding. These statements may be provided along with the application for funding or at the request of the CCAC Secretariat during the evaluation process.
- For-profit entities may only participate in the project as stakeholders, co-funders, or end users. Applicants are encouraged to include for-profit entities in the development of the project proposal and/or during project implementation if their ownership of the proposed solution is key to the project’s success.
