Deadline: 5-May-23
Applications are now open for Call for ideas, a new initiative from the Nature for Climate Fund (NCF) to help deliver government’s ambitious tree planting targets which has now reached its mid-point.
Objectives
- The government has established ambitious tree planting targets in order to help tackle both climate change and the biodiversity crisis. Ministers have expressed a desire to see more trees planted on public land.
- The Nature for Climate Fund (NCF) is here to enable tree planting delivery and provides a range of incentives to help support landowners achieve this goal
- DEFRA and the Forestry Commission (FC) are keen to support the establishment of larger woodlands and the multiple public and nature benefits they provide – with the overriding principle that the right trees are planted in the right place.
- In this Call for Ideas they are inviting the owners of suitable sites to come forward with proposals that will result in a total of at least 100 Ha of new woodland planted on their land by 31st March 2025. Suitable land for this call is defined as land that is owned by either national or local government, or land owned by a third sector organisation (such as a recognised charity, social enterprise, or other not-for-profit organisation). Privately owned land or land in corporate ownership is not eligible.
- This rather unique opportunity may not arise again. They are very keen to hear from you with ideas that the NCF programme is yet to discover (and therefore fund), that would align with the NCF objectives and enable tree planting on suitable land.
- In order to submit an idea, press the Start Application’ through this advert and answer a series of key questions as well as providing an indicative budget that will enable planting. They would expect any successful proposals to be largely capital (CDEL) based. A small allowance for enabling revenue costs (RDEL) would be considered. They wish to understand how additional support would remove any current barriers to planting.
