International Renaissance Foundation (IRF) has announced an open call for competition “Protection of Victims of War Crimes and Assistance in bringing Perpetrators to Justice” to support the activities of civil society organizations that help victims of hostilities, record, document, and archive war events.
Its purpose is to expand the capabilities of civil society organizations to help victims and record information about crimes.
The fund does not provide grants to political parties, religious communities, private (individual) persons, as well as business entities that aim to make a profit.
Thematic Priorities
- Providing legal assistance to victims of war (including in foreign jurisdictions);
- Assistance to pre-trial investigation bodies and the prosecutor’s office in the formation of the evidence base regarding committed international crimes, in particular (but not exclusively):
- sexual violence related to the armed conflict;
- extrajudicial executions and enforced disappearances;
- torture, illegal detention; – deportation;
- crimes against the environment;
- crimes against cultural heritage
- Study of national approaches to prosecuting those guilty of war crimes;
- Assistance to national institutions of the criminal justice system in the formation of strategies for bringing war criminals to justice, improvement of practices of investigation of international crimes, proper involvement of victims;
- Support for self-organization of victims of war crimes, their relatives, ensuring proper communication with state institutions.
- Correspondence of the budget to the planned activity and the expected results.
Funding Information
- The minimum amount of the grant is 1,000,000 hryvnias.
- The maximum amount of the grant is 4,000,000 hryvnias.
- The average size of the grant is 2,000,000 hryvnias.
- The total budget of the competition is 20,000,000 hryvnias.
- The project implementation period is up to 12 months.
Who can apply?
- Civil society organizations in various organizational and legal forms, registered in accordance with Ukrainian legislation as non-profit.
