Thematic axis of the call
- This call is part of the energy justice theme of the Siemenpuu Foundation. In this theme Siemenpuu promotes the systemic transition towards sustainability, which, in terms of the energy sector and policies, means the dismantling of fossil and otherwise unsustainable modes of production, distribution and consumption of energy. While promoting the rapid adoption of environmentally sound and socially equitable low-carbon solutions. It is also a question of fighting against all the obstacles that hinder the sustainable energy transition.
- The concept of energy justice highlights the need for a socially just transition, which addresses the root causes of the currently unequal distribution of the benefits and burdens of energy-related decisions. To achieve energy justice, it is important to strengthen the voice of the most affected and marginalized groups of people (women, people with disabilities, minorities, indigenous peoples) and enable them to influence and participate in decision-making processes on energy policies.
- The Siemenpuu Foundation is looking for project proposals aimed at making national and/or local energy policies and solutions more sustainable and just in Mali. Activities may include any type of advocacy work, such as training civil society, communities and decision makers on energy planning and sustainable/renewable energy, supporting struggles related to energy projects, campaigning, research and public information work. They welcome proposals that explore possibilities for new ways to support activists and communities working for more democratic, just and sustainable ways of producing, distributing and consuming energy.
- They are looking for project proposals that increase the energy autonomy and well-being of local communities through sustainable and locally adapted solutions. Projects in rural communities should improve sustainable and community energy solutions, for example, with solar or wind energy. The projects’ expectations are also to strengthen the capacity of local communities to develop and maintain their sustainable modes of energy production, distribution and consumption, which would improve local well-being and enable the development of the local economy.
