The Kusuma Trust is inviting proposals from London-based charities, museums and universities for the Green Grants to improve access to green spaces or green technology for communities in London.
Areas
This call looks to fund new work in the following project areas:
- Installation of environmentally friendly technologies for the direct benefit of the community, for example (but not limited to) air pollution monitors, City Trees, or closed loop waste management systems
- Biodiversity and urban greening projects, for example (but not limited to) including green roofs, tree planting and rewilding
- Green engagement projects improving access to green spaces or helping Londoners to learn about the natural environment, including community gardening and disabled access improvements
Funding Information
- This call for proposals is to provide grants of up to £100,000.
- The project you are applying for must respond to one or more of the elements, and activities should start between July and December 2022. The grant activities must be completed by the end of 2024. Proposal budgets can include up to £10,000 for an external scoping study and/or environmental consultancy fees.
Types of work they will fund:
- They will take a particular interest in enterprising and innovative ideas, and work led by inspiring, visionary individuals and teams who are passionate about their work.
- Capital projects, which have a sustainability plan in place
- Sustainable community projects (that can continue once the grant period is over, or have lasting benefits)
- Pilot projects
- Training
- Capital projects
- Feasibility studies, project evaluations and community consultations will be considered as part of wider programming
Eligibility Criteria
- You must be a registered or exempt charity in England with a turnover of over £200,000 (in your latest published accounts) with an office in London.
- The project being applied for must take place in Greater London
- Charities with a turnover of less than £1M will only be considered if they are based in Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, Wandsworth, Hammersmith and Fulham, Brent, Camden, Islington, City of London, Lambeth, or Southwark
- Projects that only engage the community of one borough must be working in Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, Wandsworth, Hammersmith and Fulham, Brent, Camden, Islington, City of London, Lambeth, or Southwark
- You must hold a valid UK registered bank account in the name of the organisation
- You must have governance and financial management systems appropriate to your overall work and the proposed programme
- You must hold relevant DBS checks and safeguarding policies and procedures
- You must have paid staff
Exclusion Criteria
- Individuals
- Statutory bodies
- Schools, colleges,or nurseries
- Political organisations, policy influencing or advocacy
- Campaigning programmes
- Funding for projects or programmes that are completed
- Funding for the practice of religion, or any activities that actively promote religion or particular belief systems
- Organisations that benefit only one or a small number of individuals (e.g under 50)
- Programmes of work that are primarily the responsibility of statutory authorities
- Organisations without a website
- Mental health/emotional wellbeing work must be part of wider programming
- Sports programmes must be part of a more holistic approach
