Deadline: 17-Mar-23
Knowledge Network, in partnership with the First Peoples’ Cultural Council, is seeking Indigenous filmmakers to produce stories reflecting the cultural values First Peoples bring to British Columbia.
These stories will be broadcast on Knowledge Network and its streaming platforms. They are looking for stories that inform, entertain and enlighten audiences about First Nations cultural revitalization in British Columbia, which include efforts to revitalize languages, arts, cultures and heritage and showcase the positive impact on communities. These stories will span a wide variety of subject areas including, but not limited to, art, music, dance, songs, stories, languages and language technology, heritage stewardship, repatriation, archeology.
British Columbia is a vast landscape that has been home to Indigenous Nations since time immemorial. There is diversity in the languages and cultures that span the province. Knowledge Network and the First Peoples’ Cultural Council recognize the effects of colonization on Indigenous peoples. Therefore, they seek inspirational stories that celebrate British Columbia’s First Peoples and demonstrate what makes their cultures so vibrant, resilient, and hopeful with a future full of possibility.
About the Initiative
They are commissioning two half-hour compilations of short films. Each compilation will consist of 10 films approximately 3 minutes in length. Both compilations will have unifying themes and will run as individual shorts on Knowledge Network and as half-hour programs. Here are a couple examples of recent Knowledge commissions that were created using the same format:
- Dear Reader – Dear Reader
- Behind the Facade
Knowledge Network and the First Peoples’ Cultural Council will embark on a two-tier selection process. The first phase will consist of producers providing two story ideas along with company and creative team information. A short list will be created for phase 2. Those shortlisted will be required to provide a detailed treatment/outline and budget for one of their story submissions. Knowledge Network and the First Peoples’ Cultural Council will select two production companies to move into development.
Eligibility Criteria
- Indigenous peoples of Canada (First Nations, Inuit and Métis).
