The Embassy of Canada in Thailand and Canada’s Diplomatic Offices in Cambodia and Laos are seeking proposals for its Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).
The CFLI is a targeted small-grants program, directly managed by the Embassy of Canada in Thailand, designed to fund visible, high impact, results-oriented projects. In general, CFLI projects are locally designed and implemented, making the program highly responsive to local needs and interests.
Thematic Priorities
- Cambodia: The CFLI thematic priorities for Cambodia in 2017-2018 are:
- Empowering women and girls and promoting gender equality
- Championing human rights, inclusive and accountable governance, democracy, peaceful pluralism, and respect for diversity
- Promoting peace and security
- Laos: The CFLI thematic priorities for Laos in 2017-2018 are:
- Promoting human development, specifically in the areas of health, nutrition, and education
- Championing human rights, inclusive and accountable governance, democracy, peaceful pluralism, and respect for diversity
- Promoting action on the environment, including water and climate change
- Thailand: The CFLI thematic priorities for Thailand in 2017-2018 are:
- Empowering women and girls and promoting gender equality
- Championing human rights, inclusive and accountable governance, democracy, peaceful pluralism, and respect for diversity
- Promoting action on the environment, including water and climate change
Funding Information
The average CFLI contribution is C$15,000 to C$30,000 Canadian Dollars (C$50,000 is the maximum allocation amount for a project).
Eligibility Criteria
The following organisations and institutions are eligible to submit a proposal for a project to be carried out in Cambodia, Laos or Thailand:
- local non-governmental, community and not-for-profit organizations,
- local academic institutions working on local projects,
- international, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional institutions, organizations and agencies working on local development activities,
- municipal, regional or national government institutions or agencies of the recipient country working on local projects, and
- Canadian non-governmental and not-for-profit organizations that are working on local development activities through a local office.
The majority of CFLI funding is to be directed toward local civil society organizations (including non-governmental organizations) working in Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand.
