The Northern Territory Homelessness Strategy aims to strengthen the homelessness system to deliver improved outcomes for Territorians who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
The aim is to help people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and support the effective operation of the Northern Territory’s homelessness service sector, through addressing any current service gaps.
In applying for funding, the applicants acknowledge their mutual interest in preventing homelessness with particular regard to people experiencing disproportionate housing inequality and disadvantage.

- This program has three key priority areas:
- Intervene early to prevent homelessness
- Deliver culturally safe services that focus on people experiencing homelessness
- Build an effective homelessness system
Funding Information
- The National Agreement on Social Housing and Homelessness (NASHH) provides the Northern Territory (NT) an estimated financial contribution of $290.24 million from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2029, of which $223.49 million is allocated to homelessness response service delivery.
Funded Period
- Future recurrent funding opportunities from 1 July 2025 will be provided to support the delivery of the funded activities for a 4-year period from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2029 is currently advertised on GrantsNT.
Outcomes
- There are four key outcomes identified within this funding:
- People experiencing homelessness have access to appropriate services, accommodation and housing and receive services they need
- People at risk of homelessness can access and maintain independent housing and have increased access to income, greater self-reliance and community connections
- NT Homelessness Sector is more efficient, effective, better coordinated and integrated
- The NT homelessness system is preventive with fewer people becoming homeless, and responsive to people who experience homelessness.
Eligibility Criteria
- This funding is available to not-for-profit entities for the purpose of addressing current service gaps in the Central Australian and Barkly regions.
- An applicant will only be eligible if the organisation is compliant and has submitted all reporting requirements for existing grants with DCF.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Funding cannot support:
- any project of a political party nature
- any project of a commercial or business nature
- retrospective funding for projects, functions, services that have already been completed or items that have already been provided or previously purchased
- projects by organisations established for profit or financial gain or increased membership
- projects that duplicate existing services available to the community
- deficit budgets
